Day 64: Roanoke Island to Coinjock, NC

We left Manteo at 10:00am and we followed the 8' channel from Manteo out to the main channel in Roanoke Sound then headed north. Once in 11' of water we headed west on Albemarle Sound.

After clearing the shoals on the north side of the sound we steered 345 degrees for 15 miles. The wind was out of the NE at 15-18 knots giving us an apparent wind of about 30 knots on the flying bridge.

At the north end of the sound we entered the North River. This river twists and turns through marsh, swamp, and shoals 10 miles or so to the North Carolina Cut.

In the cut we stopped at the Coinjock Marina for fuel, pump-out, and lunch. Because there are a number of draw bridges and a lock between here and Norfolk and no place to tie up in the Dismal Swamp we will stay here for the night.
