Day 26: Saugatuck, MI to Chicago, IL

We left Saugatuck at 8:16, headed out the breakwater to the lake, and were really worried about the weather. We had 86 miles to go across the open lake to Chicago, IL. At first, the seas were only a foot or so, but soon the wind picked up to 20 knots or so from the southwest and finally calmed back down.

Despite our earlier concerns, it was an easy ride. We picked up the Chicago skyline, a welcome site, more than 20 miles south. We pulled into the Burnham Harbor breakwater in Chicago for fuel at 2:05pm eastern time (1:05pm CDT) where we took on 81.9 gallons. Then we headed north along the waterfront a mile or so to tie up at the Chicago Yacht Club and get ready for the events running throughout the weekend.

At the end of the day we had 206 hours on the engine and we burnt 80 gallons of fuel averaging at 1.075 nm/gal.
