Day 23: Bay Harbor to Leland, MI

Underway at 10am, fueled up straight away in Petoskey, MI.

Before leaving we checked the boat from top of the mast to bottom of the hull, starboard to port and made sure everything was ready to cross Lake Michigan. We had to stop early in a lovely place though – Leland, MI - as the weather would not have let us go anywhere further.

We got a little taste of Lake Michigan today with 20-25 knot winds on the nose after we left Little Traverse Bay this morning. Spray up to the bridge but the boat kept a steady pace of about 15 knots.
George Sass Sr and I got to the boat yesterday evening in Bay Harbor and checked everything out and refueled in Petoskey before we hit the lake.

But the boat handled the big stuff well, giving us confidence in the hull. We pulled in to Leland just as a strong front hit. The temperature dropped 20 degrees and the wind gusts were bad but the people at Leland marina were great. Very friendly and immaculate place. Back to the lake early tomorrow.

We estimated 52.6NM for 50 Gal, so about 1.047 nm/gal surely explained by this strong wind. We are now at 185 hours on the Cummins engine.
