Day 8: Rochester, NY to Mississauga, ON

Underway at 6.10am.

Docked at Port Credit Harbor at 4.30pm. Cleared with Canadian customs in Cobourg, ON at 11.30 am. A little bit shaken in the middle of the Lake Ontario but still a nice sunny day out there, we enjoyed it.

That day, our main goal was really to get that boat over in time for the Canadian customs clearance in order to reach Port Credit before the night. We met Rene Julien, from the Beneteau Group who assisted us with all the paperwork. Axel from Beneteau actually took care of setting up all that up ahead of time with the help of the company Mendhelsson Logistics as it is not a common project and it requires a few special forms to cross the borders.

Before leaving Cobourg, we bought some provisions to survive on our day towards Mississauga. We also had a wonderful view of Toronto and took a few shots.

We finally arrived in Port Credit at 4.30pm and already had some people waiting for us to see the boat. Throughout the weekend we travelled around the Yacht Clubs of Missisauga, Oakville and Toronto. We had quite a few boaters aboard the boat for sea trials and they really liked the way it handles as well as the design and internal features… Lots of compliments!

Both Canadian Yachting Magazine and Anchor Yacht Sales set up the reception on Saturday afternoon and it actually had a lot of success as almost 200 people showed up between 3.30pm and 8pm. By the way, the next morning, we took the folks from Canadian Yachting out for a sea trial and photo shoot with a chase boat. We got great pictures which will be posted very soon on Facebook.

Now Bing O’Meara, editor-in-chief at Lakeland Boating Magazine is the new captain of The Greatest Loop, and with Roland Schultz his crew, he will go through the amazing Trent-Severn Waterway as well as up in the Georgian Bay/North Channel to finally reach Harbor Bay, MI around June 9th, 2012. Have a good trip Bing and Roland!
