Day 7: Brewerton to Rochester, NY

Underway at 6.40am

Docked at the Rochester Yacht Club at 4.45pm. Passed with no problems through the Oswego locks and with perfect conditions on the lake. Boat will be leaving on time on Friday Morning for Canadian Customs clearing in Cobourg, ON.

Cool misty morning as we headed toward lock 1 for a 7am opening on the fourth day of our journey.  Our goal for the day is to get to Lake Ontario and weather permitting cross to the Port of Rochester and prepare the boat for a hand off to the next crew. We had seven locks to pass through, all descending to which is much easier than climbing which we found to have more turbulence while in the lock. The morning started out cool and there were lot's of bass jumping. It was slow going as most of the sped limits were 5mph with some sections allowing for 30mph.

It was a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the countryside and have a quick chat with folks as we pasted by. We stopped for lunch at "Mom and Pops" and took a quick walk along the canal. Once through the final lock we stepped the mast and headed out on to the lake. The water was as clam as could be and it made for a smooth and truly enjoyable crossing. Taking turns the helm allowed each of us to sit in the flybridge and take in the stunning views of the lake. Once we arrive in Rochester we pulled into the Rochester Yacht Club and enjoyed meeting folks that wanted to visit the boat. Dinner out and then a nice glass of wine with friends onboard.

Between Brewerton and , we've estimated 79.6 nm, 57 Gal. so about 1.40nm/ Gal. Average speed was around 8.6 knots. Total engine hours from now: 96.7H

Our leg of the journey is over and we had a wonderful time and got to enjoy a historical journey down the oldest canal system in the country. Safe travels to the next crew ! (Mike Green & Kevin Flynn)
